Arizona’s unemployment rate continued to decline in December going down from 6.0 percent in November to 5.8 percent. While this is still higher than the national unemployment rate of 5.0 percent, the jobless rate is back down to where it was in May 2015.

The state also gained 7,400 non-farm jobs in December, while the private sector gained 13,300 jobs.

Five of the 11 sectors saw gains in December, with the largest increase seen in the Trade, Transportation and Utilities sector where 5,700 jobs were added. The Professional and Business Services sector also saw a large gain with adding 5,200 jobs.

Looking back at the one-year picture, Arizona’s unemployment rate was at 6.6% in December 2014.
